Eppich House II
Designed by Arthur Erickson

Pulse Design Interiors

I’m thrilled to share a project that’s been very close to my heart recently – the restoration, renovation and staging of a stunning Arthur Erickson home in Vancouver. As the principal of Pulse Design Interiors, this endeavour has been both a challenge and a joy.

Arthur Erickson’s architectural legacy is nothing short of iconic. His homes are renowned for their innovative design, timeless elegance, and profound influence on modern architecture. When I was entrusted with the task of breathing new life into an Erickson-designed home, I knew I had to honour his vision while ensuring the space met the needs of contemporary living.
Erickson collaborated with interior designer Francisco Kripacz to create custom furnishings for the home. These pieces were expertly crafted by Ebco Industries, co-founded by Hugo Eppich, the current homeowner.
This collaborative effort seamlessly merges architecture, interior design, and craftsmanship, creating a stunning living space that honours the architect’s vision and elevates functionality and aesthetics.

It serves as a testament to the lasting impact of creative teamwork.

The Challenge
Restoring and renovating a historical architectural masterpiece is a significant undertaking. It involves meticulous attention to detail, an understanding of the architect’s intentions, and a steadfast commitment to preserving the original design’s essence. Striking a balance between restoration and renovation is crucial.
While modern updates for functionality and safety may be necessary, maintaining the building’s core character is of utmost importance.
Throughout the project, our goal was to work discreetly, leaving minimal evidence of our presence. This commitment to a respectful restoration process emphasizes the idea that “no one should notice we were even there.” It’s a labour of love, harmonizing the past and present within Erickson’s visionary framework.

Preserving a Legacy
One of the most exciting aspects of this project was the delicate balance between preservation and innovation. We meticulously restored the original architectural elements, emphasizing the dramatic use of steel and glass.

We aimed to harmoniously merge old and new in the intricate dance of restoration and renovation.
We restored the interior spaces with contemporary aesthetics in mind while staying true to the home’s original spirit. Our selection of furnishings, materials, and colour palettes was crucial in achieving a perfect blend of classic and modern elements.

One of our goals in any project is to create spaces that stand the test of time. In this Arthur Erickson home, I strived to transform it into a sanctuary that pays homage to the past while embracing the future. The result is a timeless dwelling that seamlessly caters to the demands of modern living, offering comfort, functionality, and aesthetics in perfect harmony.
Conclusion:
This project has been a true labour of love, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to blend my passion for design with the rich history of Arthur Erickson’s work. It’s also been a pleasure working with our fabulous clients and a great team of professionals who share our vision for preserving architectural heritage. Vancouver’s architectural landscape continues to evolve, and projects like this ensure that the legacy of iconic architects like Erickson thrives, inspiring future generations of designers and homeowners alike.

Stay tuned for more updates on my design journey!
